The annual Town & Country Show at Lamphey on August 7 was an outstanding success, prompting heartfelt thanks from the Pembroke Farmers Club to everyone involved.
The event, blessed with favourable weather, saw a remarkable turnout as grey skies cleared just in time to create the perfect backdrop for a day filled with excitement and community spirit.
This year’s show was nothing short of spectacular, drawing record crowds who were treated to a wide variety of displays and activities. A highlight of the day was Meirion Owen’s famous “Quack Pack,” where his expertly trained border collies herded ducks with precision, much to the delight of spectators. The vintage section also proved to be a major attraction, showcasing a stunning array of tractors, agricultural machinery, cars, and motorbikes that offered a nostalgic glimpse into the past.
The event ring was a hub of activity, with the Pembrokeshire Mudslingers thrilling audiences by parading their off-road vehicles, demonstrating the power and agility of their machines. Modern machinery enthusiasts were also in for a treat with an impressive display by the Rees Bros from St. Florence, who showcased the latest advancements in agricultural technology.
In the livestock section, attendees gathered to admire a diverse array of animals, including sheep, alpacas, donkeys, and cattle. New to the show this year were pigs, which quickly became a crowd favourite. The demonstrations continued with a local farrier giving a live shoeing demonstration, while sheep shearing drew a captivated audience eager to see the skill and speed involved in the process.
The horse section did not disappoint, with top-quality entries vying for the prestigious titles. The Supreme Horse Championship was awarded to Matt McGivern from Manorbier, whose horse, Coppybush So Fashion, impressed the judges and secured the top honour.
Behind the scenes, the success of the show is the result of year-round planning and dedication by a passionate team. Countless hours are spent brainstorming ideas, coordinating attractions, and ensuring that every detail is in place. This collaborative effort, along with the invaluable support of sponsors, trade stand exhibitors, stewards, and the South Pembs YFC, is what makes the show possible.
As we reflect on the incredible success of this year’s event, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved, writes club secretary Pam Davies. Your hard work and enthusiasm are the backbone of this beloved community tradition. Here’s to the 2025 Show—may it be even bigger and better!
