MARLENE, who chaired the March meeting of Summerhill WI, welcomed Glyn Harries, who gave a very interesting and entertaining talk on Celtic myths and legends.
Discussions covered the Mabinogion, saints, ghosts and even aliens and a UFO! The vote of thanks was then given by Pam.
The talk was preceded with business. In the absence of Linda, Hilary stood in as secretary, with Dawn covering treasurer’s duties.
Thanks were given to Hilary for the top table flowers and to members for their PATCH donations. Apologies were noted, with birthday greetings given to Wendy.
It was with great sadness that a minutes silence was held in memory of Eileen Algate who passed away at the age of 103. Until recently she had been an active WI member for over 75 years, firstly at Amroth and then more recently at Summerhill. She was a well known local character who will be sadly missed. Sympathy was extended to Marilyn and her family.
The outing to the Torch Theatre to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat had been a very enjoyable afternoon with members impressed with the quality of the performance.
The Federation Letter was discussed, financial statement given and the 2024 subscriptions collected.
Upcoming events were noted including a Strawberry Tea on Friday June 7 and the coach trip to Brecon on Saturday July 6. More details will follow next month.
Refreshments were served by Linnia, Wendy and Sue H with Jane winning the raffle.
The next meeting will be on Monday April 8 at 7pm, when a representative from Pant Mawr will give a cheese tasting demonstration. Hostesses to be Jo, Hillary and Sue E.
