Plenty of willing helpers turned up for the launch of the Litter Picking Hub at Pembroke Town Hall on November 20.
Organised by Pembroke Town Council and Keep Wales Tidy, the launch attracted lots of helpful volunteers who took part in a litter pick around Pembroke town centre and the nearby grounds.
All volunteers were provided with litter picking gear, and Pembrokeshire Project Officer, David Rowe, was on hand to give a full health and safety briefing at the outset of the journey.
Pembroke Town Council expressed their gratitude to participants through their Facebook page.
“It was a great morning to get out and tidy-up the town,” commented volunteer Ann.
The new Litter Picking Hub allows the public, community groups and businesses to borrow litter picking equipment to clean up their local area.
Volunteers can borrow litter picking equipment needed to carry out a safe clean-up directly from the Pembroke Town Hall building situated in Main Street.
The hub has been set up by the environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy in collaboration with Pembroke Town Council and funded by the Welsh Government.
Project Officer for Keep Wales Tidy, David Rowe commented:
“We’re delighted to be able to use the facilities at Pembroke Town Hall as a new Litter Picking Hub and would encourage local residents to volunteer for a few hours whenever they can to help clean up the local community”.
More than 100 hubs have already been set up as part of Caru Cymru (Love Wales) - an inclusive movement led by Keep Wales Tidy and local authority partners to stamp out litter and waste.
Keep Wales Tidy said it aims to tackle the issue of litter head on, making it easier than ever to borrow equipment and take positive action to improve the community.
