Road closures for the up and coming Long Course Weekend sportive taking place in Tenby have been outlined by Pembrokeshire County Council.
Members of Tenby town council were informed of the ‘Road Traffic Order’ which will be to implement temporary restrictions which are necessary to enable the sporting event to be held over the weekend of July 13 to 15, at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The triathlon kicks off on the Friday with the Wales Swim taking place on the North Beach, with The Croft to be closed to traffic from 6.30 to 8 pm.
Road closures in place the following day for the Wales Sportive 112 mile cycle ride, will see - The Norton, White Lion Street, High Street, Tudor Square, St Julian’s Street, Crackwell Street/Bridge Street (access to harbour maintained), Cob/Tor Lane, Church Street, closed between 5 am and 8 pm.
For the final day of the event, many of these same streets in Tenby will also be closed from 5 am to 8 pm, for the 26.2 mile Wales Marathon, with other road and lane closures along the route to be implemented and removed on a rolling basis from 9.30 am, as the race progresses.
“The restrictions imposed by this Order will not apply to those vehicles associated with the event or emergency service vehicles and will only apply at such times and to such extent as indicated by the placing of the relevant traffic signs or indicated by a Police Officer or Traffic Management Officer associated with the event,” explained PCC’s head of highways and construction Darren Thomas.
The Tenby Pedestrianisation Scheme which begins on Monday, July 2, will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the Long Course Weekend, to enable the roads within the walled town to be used as part of the event course. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
