The annual Pembroke River Rally will return on Saturday, August 7.
Organised by the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society in conjunction with Pembroke Town Council, the event sees the Mayor of Pembroke and dignitaries sail up the river, in a flagship followed by a convoy of private vessels.
Once the fleet arrives at Pembroke it is met by the crowd on the quays where there are stalls and events going on providing a ‘carnival atmosphere’.
The event is open to all boats, free of charge, as long as their draught is no more than 1.5 metres.
The Milford Haven Port Authority recommends that a pilot is always used on this difficult and tortuous river.
The fleet rendezvous is at the Crow Pool near the power station at 3.45 pm, and is instructed by the pilot to form the convoy. At 4 pm the safety/rescue craft will direct the vessels to form a convoy to line astern and follow the flagship.
Once the flotilla of boats is formed and underway, vessels are requested to keep station, with the channel marked with candy striped buoys.
The fleet will then arrive at the Castle Pond at 4.30 pm.
