Newly released with an accompanying video filmed in Tenby and Whitland, Where Will it Lead is an enchanting, beautiful standalone single by Carmarthenshire all-sibling folk band The Meadows.

There is a haunting quality to the song that lingers after each play. Fans of moving ballads like Forever Autumn should check this out straight away.

Titania’s pure voice is accompanied by piano, flute, violin, and Ryan Aston’s drumming in an organic arrangement entirely free from artifice. Titania has been lead vocalist for the band since she was six (they started doing concerts 15 years ago), with Melody and Fantasia providing backing vocals. As they’re all sisters, they really enjoy working on the harmonies together.

The song’s composer, pianist Fantasia describes Where Will it Lead as “a very personal song, reflecting upon life and walking in faith and not fear,” and it’s based on a family story:

“Our great-great grandmother was a wealthy heiress, and our great-great-grandfather was a young Welsh man who was the family chauffeur. When they ran off together, she was disowned by her family and cut off without a penny. It was always a tale which intrigued us all growing up… Unlike our Grandparents’ story however, we wanted to include an element of support and acceptance from the family.”

The video stars Titania and Fantasia and was filmed by Rhys Davies of Furball Films. If you spot the name ‘Gabriel’, it’s because Titania’s favourite book hero is Gabriel Oak from Far From the Madding Crowd.

This talented local band has done several tours, alongside playing up and down the country at various venues and festivals, including Tenby’s De Valence Pavilion. Inspired by artists like Clannad, Secret Garden and Kate Bush, the Meadows’ most recent album, Dreamless Days, was made of entirely original songs; one was written for them by friend of the band Steve Balsamo.

The Meadows
The Meadows’ music is recorded, mixed and mastered in Pokey Cupboard Studios. Fantasia says: “Mostly, our music has been recorded in our home studio which has included playing the violin partially inside a cupboard... We do have a bit more space these days but the name has stuck!” Photo: Garath Danks (Garath Danks)
