This time we have some incredibly sad news from the Museum with the loss of our Vice Chair of Trustees Mike Brew, writes David Llewellyn, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery curator.

Mike had been both a trustee of the Museum and volunteer for many years and gave so much of his time and expertise to its running and success. He is a great loss and deeply missed.

We have already started accepting kind donations to the Museum in memory of Mike and all his work and contribution to its success.

This brings us on to a wider question of funding which was originally planned for this article.

As readers will be aware, we are living through challenging financial times and in particular this affects places such as our town’s Museum which not only helps preserve and share our history but forms an important visitor attraction.

Recent media stories have highlighted the challenges facing places such as museums as highlighted by the recent issues with organisations as large as the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.

As we move forward we are increasingly seeing a squeeze on funding sources which we are working hard to address. We gain finance from a variety of places such as admissions, shop sales, grants for specific projects, entry to events held at the Museum and importantly all the fantastic fundraising work done by the Friends of the Museum organisation, who are always welcoming new members.
