A collective community spirit in the area during the lockdown has been shown in abundance, however there have been a few incidents that have required police attention.
Last week Tenby Stores and Post Office were left shocked by a despicable act of theft after a delivery to a customer in Penally was stolen from the gentleman’s porch.
“Two scumbags decided to steal two bottles of alcohol - they must have followed our delivery driver! I can not believe how low people can stoop!” said postmaster at the store Vince Malone.
"It’s just so sad, hopefully the police will catch them,” added Vince’s wife Fiona.
The store who replaced the items at no cost, have put their proposed move which was due to take place last week on hold for now.
“In all the madness that we have seen this week, both Fiona and I would like to thank everyone for their support, help and kind words,” continued Vince.
“Firstly a big thanks to our great team who have stepped up to the plate to deliver an unrivalled service to the Tenby community. Secondly to the teachers who have entertained, amused and educated our children allowing us both to work. I’m sure it’s not been easy for you. And also a big thank you to all our customers who have adapted to the changes we have put in place and taken it all in their stride.
Tenby AFC also reported ‘morons’ who felt it was fun to race around the car park at the Clicketts playing fields, spraying chippings everywhere. A spokesperson for the club stated that people living in the vicinity would be tasked with filming any future anti-social behaviour in the locality and pass it onto local police.
Youngsters gathering at Tenby’s skatepark and Jubilee play park overlooking the South Beach after the lockdown have also been reported to police.
Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police Mark Collins has stated that now is the time for everyone to ‘pull together’ in society.
“The pace at which the situation has unfolded has been unprecedented. Our communities are being asked to live in a way which they are likely never to have experienced before, and we hope the majority are complying with the Prime Minister’s instruction to limit movement and time out of the house,” he said.
“We take pride as a service in the relationship we have with our communities and you as our partners who represent our communities in your local areas. You are very important conduits between us and our communities.
“I am confident people will follow the stringent, but very necessary measures that the Government have put in place, but for those who will not follow the measures, we will utilise the existing powers we have, as well as any additional powers as they become available to us. I am extremely proud of the work that has gone into the planning around this operation and the commitment shown by my staff.
“I ask our communities for their support too, and with that, I’m confident that together we can get through this,” he added.
In response to the situation, Neighbourhood Policing Teams have adapted current patrol plans, targeting them in line with the UK Government guidelines.
Daily patrols will be conducted and will include key locations such as supermarkets, food shops, pharmacies, parks, GP surgeries, and petrol stations/shops.
“Obviously our staff and the public’s health is paramount, therefore they’ll be practicing social distancing guidelines (2m rule) with people wherever possible. Officers will also have their Personal Protective Equipment for use when appropriate,” continued Constable Collins.
“Dynamic patrols aimed at engaging with, and where appropriate challenging, gatherings of more than two people will also take place at areas known to be associated with ASB, and local parks where open etc.”
