It was Under 12s Cup week for St. Florence Girls. It was an early Sunday morning start travelling away to Newcastle Emlyn. The squad consisted of Teigan, captain, Ellie, Fiona, Megan, Maddy, Mabli, Ruby, Alex, Olivia, Sienna, Alex and Laura.
The Under 12s is usually a nine-player game, but Newcastle Emlyn only had seven players, so the game became seven-a-side.
There was a competitive edge to the start of the game, with St. Florence putting pressure on Newcastle Emlyn’s goal. Teigan, Ruby, Maddy and Mabli were all unlucky in the early stages being denied by some fine goalkeeping from Newcastle Emlyn.
The breakthrough soon came with a neat pass from Teigan to Ruby, who shot into the bottom corner.
St. Florence started to settle, with Mabli, marauding down the right wing, being a constant threat to Newcastle Emlyn, and within no time she had scored a hat-trick.
Maddy and Teigan were dominating in midfield and were rewarded with a goal apiece, Teigan giving her usual captain’s performance, and Maddy playing probably her best game for St. Florence with her box to box play.
Fiona was not only a rock in defence, but was attacking at every opportunity. Megan was also in defence and was seeing opportunities for her to attack down the wing and was unlucky not to score.
Ruby held the ball well up front, helping to link the play. Alex got stuck in traffic, but when she arrived, instead of going in goal, she went up front and scored a tidy goal.
The half finished with a fourth goal from Mabli.
In the second half, Sienna came on to continue her no nonsense defending, settling quickly into her role, while Olivia came on for only her second game, showing good passing ability and composure. The ever-reliable Laura slotted into the defence, enabling the versatile Fiona to move forward. Fiona secured her usual brace of goals.
Ellie and Alex shared goalkeeping duties and when called into action, pulled off some good saves.
St. Florence were hit for the third game on the trot with the 10-goal aggregate rule, with the game being stopped at 10-0. Both teams were then mixed, with Teigan adding a further goal to her day’s tally.
