Kilgetty AFC organised another fantastic football festival on bank holiday Monday at Kilgetty Sports Club.
After lots of hard work and preparations by organiser Lukas Gamble, Kilgetty AFC chairman, and the team of dedicated volunteers, the pitches and festival facilities were ready.
Spectators wrapped up warm and enjoyed a dry day watching footballers from the 57 teams registered. Teams played a massive 143 games using Fairtrade stitched footballs.
People travelled across Wales to take part, with around 800 people attending. A festival first saw one team travel over from Worcester, England!
“We came all the way from Droitwich Worcester! Thanks for hosting! It was a great day! Our boys loved it and so did we!” said Kerri Moore.
The morning session saw Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 11s games, followed by the Under 7s, Under 12s, Under 13s and Under 14s Girls games.
Volunteers worked well to keep things running smoothly, organising parking, registration, relaying and tallying scores, serving refreshments and cooking the popular BBQ food.
Games were officiated by volunteer referees who worked hard all day. Refereeing is often a thankless role, organisers complimented the officials on their efforts.
Kilgetty coaches discussed how fun and fairness should be key at the festival, organiser Lukas stating: “As a club, fairness is important to us on and off the pitch. We want to provide a fun, safe environment for kids to play football without pressure from parents and coaches. We are supporting the use of Fairtrade footballs to ensure football stitchers get a fair deal too. ”
Folly Farm were proud sponsors of the festival goals, further sponsorship was generously provided by Hank Marvin Fish & Chips, and Hyundai Garage Kilgetty, with Fairtrade footballs donated from the Fair Trade In Football Campaign thanks to Wales Council for Voluntary Action grant funding.
People paid compliments on a great and well organised event. Jamie Black, Milford United Under 9s, said: “Top effort from everyone involved and well hosted. Already looking forward to next year!”
With Chris Walters form Cwm Wanderers U13s saying: “ Great day, we enjoyed also!”
Medals were presented to all participating players.
Lukas Gamble did a fantastic job organising the festival and his thanks are expressed to all involved: “Wow! That was some day. 57 teams. 143 games! Thank you to everyone who came and played, to the coaches and supporters. You were fantastic. Very special thank you to all the volunteers, especially the referees, without any of you it would never be possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” said Lukas
