Volunteers at St. Catherine’s Island and Fort have presented a cheque to the Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity based in Milford Haven.
The sum of £400 was collected by St Catherine’s annual ‘Wishes, Dreams and Prayers’ fundraiser that they hold each year for various charities in and around the area.
Island co-ordinator Andi Jones said: “We were given a tour of the facility at their HQ and they help so many children and parents. It’s a beautiful idea and massive help to children suffering the loss of a loved one.
This year the volunteers are raising funds for The Old Chapel community project in Lower Frog Street, Tenby, which helps people who need food, clothing, company and support.
“They are a wonderful concern and the cafe is so welcoming with incredible homemade meals and cakes,” added Andi.
“We are also putting out appeals for anyone interested in volunteering on the island; also to anyone who has memories or photos of the Island, the Fort or its residents. As far as we know, there isn’t a single photograph of the inside of the zoo which ran between 1968 and 1978.”
