The Mayor of Tenby, has given her thanks to those in the locality that have been responsible for providing outstanding support during the Coronavirus crisis.

Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall last month asked the town’s people to nominate businesses and individuals that have been there for communities and continue to help during the pandemic.

“I have heard from so many people who are most grateful for the help they have received, so this was just a way of acknowledging what they have done for the people of Tenby and the surrounding area to say thank you,” said Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall.

“We have all been living through extraordinary times. The lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic has presented many challenges to our town and its people. I know how many people, organisations and businesses have been helping others during this difficult time.

“Just after having the honour of becoming the 631st Mayor of Tenby, I asked the people of Tenby to nominate individuals, organisations and businesses who had provided outstanding support to our community and its people. I wanted to profile people’s personal stories and how acts of kindness had helped them. I have been overwhelmed with the response.

“Shops coming to them and people delivering shopping has been invaluable and will continue to be important,” she remarked, emphasising that that support has been delivered in many ways.

“There are people that have been co-ordinating help, making telephone calls to isolated people and just being good neighbours. So many people and businesses have been there for people; continue to be there for people and will be there for them in the future.

“I know the support will go on but I do think this is a good time to say thank you to people for what they have done so far,” she continued.

Postmasters at Tenby Stores and Post Office, Vince and Fiona Malone along with their staff, received the most nominations from the public, and were presented with a special thank you scroll from the Mayor on behalf of the town council last week, for their support to the community in keeping the shop open and organising deliveries, in addition to providing support to vulnerable members of the community.

“The post office was specifically nominated for their outstanding work in ensuring access to postal services and food, providing deliveries and for supporting the isolated and most vulnerable in our community,” said the Mayor.

“Nominations have referenced the kindness that Vince and Fiona and the team have shown and mentioned how they have all gone beyond what would normally be expected.

“In addition, people have referred to your managing the move of location whilst maintaining services.”

The post office premises formerly situated on Warren Street, which made the move in recent weeks to a new building along South Parade, also received a visit from the Welsh secretary of state, local MP Simon Hart on Monday.

“So many Covid superstars it’s hard to keep up - Tenby has been blessed with many but Vince and Fi Malone of Tenby Stores and Post Office must be up there with the best of them if my post bag is anything to go by,” said Mr. Hart.

“The day starts at 6.30 am and the store is open 8 am until 9 pm, including deliveries to over 250 local customers. Community spirit is what pushes them the extra mile!” he added.
