One of Tenby’s Cancer Research Shop volunteers will be doing some ‘self-raising’ for charity by baking away ahead of the festive period.
Maureen Lower MBE who lives in Jameston and is a volunteer at the Tenby shop located at Tudor Square has been making and selling real traditional Christmas cakes to aid various charities for the past 25 years.
All the proceeds raised from the sale of the cakes by Maureen, who lived in Berlin for 42 years, will go to Cancer Research UK.
The most Maureen, who was awarded the MBE from Her Majesty the Queen in 2003 and the German Medal of Merit, has made in one year is 150 cakes using approximately 35kg of flour, 42kg mixed fruit, 360 eggs and 22kg of brown sugar!
Maureen’s cakes are bursting with moist fruit, dripping with light brown sugar and butter, generously coated with marzipan and icing, and traditional Christmas decorations, to make it an ideal Christmas present.
You can place your order now (with payment up front to cover the cost of the ingredients) for collection come mid-November.
Cakes come priced at £6.50 for a small size, £10.50 for medium, and £16.50 for large.
