Tenby Sea Cadets have continued with their varied events and training opportunities over the last few weeks.

Three cadets, J. and N. Slade along with T. Styles, travelled to Cornwall to take part in the SW area summer camp. Whilst there, they all passed their intermediate seamanship training and have been awarded the badge to wear on their uniform. Well done to the three of you.

Ioan Thompson took part in the SW area sailing regatta and has gained a place in the area team at the national regatta to be held in September. We all wish him good luck.

Sally James travelled to London to join other UK Sea Cadets to take part in the International Exchange (UK). This has been a two-week event travelling to different naval bases in the south of the country visiting sights of interest and being able to undertake training. We await her report on her experiences when she returns to the unit.

We welcomed the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, to the unit this week to make some presentation. First she presented the tree cadets with their seamanship badges. She then presented Petty Officer T. Clements with her 1st clasp for her cadet forces medal, a minimum of 18 years uniformed service, so very well-deserved. Finally, she presented the unit with their 2017 efficiency pennant, this is for their work over the last 12 months in training, H&S, paperwork, community service and general overall effort, so very well done everyone involved in the life of the unit.

Cadets attended Wings over Carew, helped with the beach party at the Caldey swim and continue with their efforts to keep the CWGC sites tidy.

Today (Friday, August 25) is the unit flag day and a chance to raise some much-needed funds. All Sea Cadet units are self-funded charities, receiving no funds from the national organisation, so if you are in town help us to keep the unit offering these opportunities for the young people of the area going.

With the boating season nearing its end, the winter programme will start with the district seamanship competition in September.

If you would like any information on joining or how you can help Tenby unit, contact me on (01834) 843708 or visit the unit on a Tuesday or Thursday evening.
