Tenby post office is set to move to a new location in the town this month - with the move promising to deliver an even better experience for customers.
The move comes after the landlords said they could not guarantee that the existing lease for the premises in Warren Street would be extended.
Following this, Tenby Stores Limited decided to pre-empt the move to a new location on the South Parade opposite the historic town walls and Five Arches, 250 yards away, rather than decide to wait for the lease to expire.
The new premises at Ruabon House, previously housed the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park information centre, and before that a branch of the Job Centre for the town.
Fiona Malone, who has run the post office in Tenby for the past five years alongside her husband Vince, said: “Our lease was due to expire on our current building and the landlords weren’t able to promise us that we could stay in the building.”
The existing post office on Warren Street will close on March 25 and 26 to allow auditors to transfer cash over to the new premises.
It will then re-open on the South Parade on Friday, March 27, at 9 am.
The new premises will offer four Post Office serving positions during shop opening hours, which will be Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 9 pm; and Sunday, between 9 am and 7.30 pm.
“We’re looking forward to this move, it’s a better location for us, it’s going to be much busier and we are going to have a better set-up for our post office and shop customers,” she continued.
The post office moving will mean that there will be more space for people to park as the new premises is located near the Five Arches car park, with more short stay bays located opposite the building.
It will also mean that Tenby Post Office can offer an extra 11.5 hours of service a week.
Despite the move, services will remain the same, with the post office being one of the few places where people can make banking enquiries.
“We will still be providing home delivery for our customers,” continued Mrs. Malone.
“We also believe that it will be a better environment for the customer.”
The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move.
“We are looking for feedback about accessibility, local community issues and anything that we can do to make life easier for our customers,” said a Post Office spokesperson
