Tavernspite School recently held a very exciting 'Wythnos Cymraeg' - 'Welsh Week' to raise money for the Urdd Fundraising Committee to support the National Eisteddfod to be held in Boncath, Pembrokeshire this summer.

The children have enjoyed a number of 'Welsh' activities including a circus skills day with Mr. Urdd, Family Fortunes 'Cymraeg' competition, Clog dancing lessons and a Welsh harpist performance. The children dressed up in Urdd colours and ran stalls selling Urdd coloured cakes and merchandise. Altogether, the school raised a very impressive £570.

Welsh co-ordinator Mrs. Ceri Emanuel said: "It is wonderful that the National Eisteddfod is to be held here in Pembrokeshire this year. Many of our pupils have entered many of the competitions and are looking forward to competing in the National Eisteddfod. All the children in the school worked really hard to raise money for the Urdd and I am delighted that we were able to raise so much. We are very grateful to Barclays Bank too."

The school were then delighted to hear that Barclays Bank would match fund through the 'Barclays Community Match Funding Scheme' and donated another £570 bringing the total raised to £1,140.

Alison Pearce from Barclays Bank, Tenby, said: "Barclays are dedicated to helping local communities and hope that this money will make a real and lasting difference."
