A Saundersfoot man with a naval history, Marshall (Tex) Badham turns 100 today (Wednesday).
Though quiet about his naval past, he is a survivor from the sinking of the HMS Repulse by the Japanese in the South China Sea back in 1941.
Mr Badham joined the Navy at the age of 15, serving 24 years and 3 months, leaving as a PO Gunner. He remains in good health today which he puts down to having neither tea nor coffee; no meat, only fish; and a good old tot of rum each evening!
Mr Badham is a widower and a grandfather.
Saundersfoot Community Council have posted on their Facebook page to wish Marshall Badham all the best on his 100th birthday, “celebrating an incredible century of memories, experiences and inspiration for his family, friends and community. The Chair of SCC, Cllr Dean Ludlow, visited Mr Badham to wish him well with a gift of cards, balloon and bottle of champagne. Many happy returns of the day.”
Readers of the Observer will no doubt want to add their best wishes for many happy returns of the day!
