Safety concerns have been raised once again by a local councillor over the location of a bus stop on a busy road in and out of Tenby.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Rossiter once again reiterated her concerns over the positioning of the bus stop along the Narberth Road which was introduced as part of a Pembrokeshire County Council scheme, to revise the road’s layout to improve the junction and pedestrian safety, with the introduction of a mini-roundabout also forming part of the project.

Clr. Mrs. Rossiter has complained that the bus stop causes more ‘hold ups’ and traffic congestion, and when discussing the mater at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, she told her colleagues that one of her neighbours had raised concerns about pulling out of the lay-by opposite the stop.

“When turning left out of the lay-by, traffic coming from the roundabout often gets frustrated by a waiting bus and will overtake on that section of the road. This has very nearly caused a head-on collision. I would like to approach the county council to see if a continuous white line can be marked onto the road from the roundabout up to Bell’s Corner,” she said, emphasising the need for the safety of the road to be looked at in general, especially if planning goes through for a proposed housing development on land west of Narberth Road, that would see highway alterations to form a new access.

A spokesperson for the county council recently said that the bus stop plans had been ‘safety audited’ ahead of the scheme, and designed so that vehicles do not ‘pass the bus’.
