At the end of November, Narberth’s longest-serving PCSO David Henry retired from the Dyfed Powys Police team.
David Joined Dyfed Powys Police as a PCSO in February 2005, working initially in Haverfordwest and moving to Narberth in March 2007.
He was then transferred to the Pembroke Team at the start of 2014, but was delighted to return to Narberth in June 2017.
David previously served over 27 years in the Royal Navy, serving around the world in the Submarine Service, Commander in Chief Fleet’s London Headquarters and the Submarine School, HMS Raleigh, Cornwall, and various other attachments, specialising in communications, security and teaching.
He joined Neighbourhood Policing to try and make a difference to the quality of life of people in the local areas of his responsibility and was enthusiastic about working in the Narberth area in order to make a difference.
At Tuesday’s town council meeting, the Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Christopher Walters, presented David with the highest award he could present which was the Narberth Shield for all the hard work and dedication he has provided to Narberth over his many years of service.
“Whilst I have no powers to Knight or award an MBE, this is the highest award I can present as Mayor and I cannot think of anyone more deserving to receive this award,” said Clr. Walters.
“David has done so much for our community and for Narberth and will be sorely missed.
“On behalf of Narberth Town Council we wish David all the very best for the future and hope he has a long and happy retirement with his lovely wife Julie.
“In David’s replacement, we welcome to Narberth PCSOs Celyn Rees and Emma Roberts, who have been shown the ropes by David - we wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to helping them settle into the community,” he added.
David said: “I would like the thank the whole of Narberth Town Council for their support over the years and I’m very proud to receive the Narberth Shield tonight.
“I will miss the daily interaction of the Narberth community, but will continue to visit and now enjoy events instead of policing them.”
The whole of Narberth Town Council thanked David for his dedication and the work done in the community.
The Town Council also presented David’s wife with a bouquet of flowers.
