Protestors will today (Monday) hit back at Pembroke Town Council’s decision to keep the portrait of the former, now disgraced mayor Dai Boswell flying high on the wall.

The protest comes following Pembroke Town Council’s decision on February 13 to vote for the portrait to remain up despite Councillor Jon Harvey’s demand for it to be removed permanently.

Mr. Boswell’s portrait was still on display for more than a year after he was convicted of raping one girl and indecently assaulting another when they were both aged under 10.

He was jailed for 18 years in 2018 for historic child sex offences, which predated his time as mayor and county councillor.

The decision by the town council was a recorded vote with just two members voting against the motion which was brought forward by Councillor Jon Nutting.

They were Clr. Harvey and Clr. Aiden Brinn.

Following the vote, Clr. Harvey resigned and walked out of the meeting.

At the meeting, some members decided to criticise the press for their coverage of the issue.

One member, claimed that the media were “bullying” the town council into making a decision.

Protestors have stated on social media: “This is for Pembroke Town Council to take the paedophile’s picture down and replace it with a plaque in honour of the survivors.”

The protest is due to take place between 3 and 7pm outside the Town Hall.
