Success at the Urdd
Ellen Mason from Ysgol Dyffryn Taf won a composing competition recently at the Urdd National Eisteddfod. She entered the competition for pupils aged between 15 and 19.
Ellen, who won the same competition last year, is currently sitting her A Level examinations and is hoping to study music at Bangor University in September. She plays both the piano and the harp and is a member of the school choir and the vocal group, 'Tempus'.
The name of the piece composed by Ellen was 'Oen Ein Duw'.
She received her trophy at a ceremony held in the main pavilion of the Eisteddfod on Friday, May 29.
Betsan and Joseph Twose also had great success in the 3D textiles competition at the eisteddfod.
The theme set for the Art and Design work this year was 'Leading'.
Joseph, who is in the current 7H form, came third in the competition with a cushion that showed two monkeys swinging through the trees as they followed their leader.
His sister, Betsan, who is in 9H won the competition for her year. She chose to depict the Three Wise Men being led by the star to Bethlehem.
Dyffryn Taf would like to congratulate Ellen, Betsan and Joseph on their great success.
Dressed up for LATCH
On Thursday, May 21, a group of Year 9 pupils from Dyffryn Taf were transformed into all sorts of weird and wonderful characters, to raise money for the charity LATCH.
LATCH is a voluntary organisation set up to support the special requirements of the children's Oncology Centre in Wales, which is based at the Children's Hospital for Wales, to help affected families and promote research into childhood cancer.
The pupils decided to organise a sponsored 'Fun Run' around the school field during their PSE lesson, dressed as bananas, hot dogs, St. Trinians girls and cyclists.
A cheque for £403 was presented to Mrs. Helen Gravelle, who represented the charity, last Thursday.
Dyffryn Taf would like to say well done to all the pupils who took part and for raising a superb amount of money.
