Narberth town councillor, Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, has become Mayor for the fourth time.
At the town council’s annual general meeting, Clr. Mrs. Rogers was the unanimous choice of her colleagues to succeed Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt as the town’s First Citizen. She was proposed by Clr. Mrs. Platt, seconded by Clr. Denise Rigby, with all those in attendance agreeing.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers has previously held the post in 2007/2008, 2011/2012 and 2015-16.
A florist at Next Door Flower Shop in High Street, she follows in her father’s footsteps as he, too, served on the council and was Mayor in the 1980s.
Married to Tony, the couple have two daughters, Jemma and Abby.
Chairman of Narberth Civic Week, Clr. Mrs. Rogers is president of the town’s British Legion and a volunteer with the Bus Stop youth group.
Rev. Martin Cox blessed the town council, while town crier Ceri Barnes announced the new Mayor.
Clr. Mrs. Rogers’s first duty was to appoint Clr. Mrs. Rigby as her Mayoress.
Deputy Mayor will be Clr. Chris Walters, who joins the ‘top table’ for the first time. He was proposed for the post by Clr. Mrs. Rogers, with Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees seconding it. All agreed.
Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Clr. Walters was unable to attend the meeting, but in a letter to the council, he said: “I would be delighted to accept the role of Deputy Mayor and fulfil my duties as a representative of the town.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to our outgoing Mayor, Clr. Ruth Platt, who has served as an outstanding first citizen of Narberth. I thank you on behalf of Narberth for your commitment and services.
“Another huge congratulations to Clr. Rogers.”
