Three new life saving defibrillators have recently been installed within the East Williamston Community area by the Community Council. One of these is conveniently located at the Community Hall and was donated by the family and friends of Debbie Hight, a popular resident of East Williamston who sadly died last year.
The Community and Hall Association has erected a plaque to acknowledge this donation to the community as a commemoration of Debbie’s life.
About 8,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest out of hospital in Wales every year. For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, a person’s chances of survival decreases by 10 per cent.
More people could be saved if more defibrillators were available and the family and friends of Debbie hope that their initiative will ensure a positive outcome in case of emergency.
Although defibrillators can be used without training, the Community Council and the Community and Hall Association will be jointly arranging an event in the near future to make the community aware of defibrillation and provide training in CPR and the use of the machine.
