Tenby have co-opted a new member to fill the role vacated by long standing servant Mrs. Caroline Thomas, who tendered her resignation in January, after 32 years on the town council.
At their meeting last week, members of the town council elected to co-opt Mr. Viv Perry of Paxton Court into the seat, who moved to Tenby early in 2017 with his wife, after residing in East Williamston for five years between 2007 and 2012, before moving back to Cheshire to be closer to their children.
“However, we both missed living near the sea and have now returned!” said Mr. Perry in his application to the council.
“We have lived throughout the UK and with my work I have travelled extensively around the world. I retired in 2004 after 31 years service from full time employment, my last appointment being a Project Manager with Shell International,” he explained.
When Mr. Perry first retired, he served as a Parish Councillor in a small village in Herefordshire called Little Dewchurch, who describes himself as a ‘walker’ - which he does every week irrespective of weather with a couple of friends from East Williamston, completing well over 100 circular walks of around 8/12 miles including the Pembrokeshire path from start to finish.
“I believe in a Council providing unity in the community who supports local people, small businesses but also tourists in a vibrant seaside location,” he continued.
“Tenby enjoys great summer activities in both sports and the arts that and needs continuous encouragement and support.
“I feel I have acquired a huge array of life skills. I still have lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. Whilst I appreciate that I am perhaps of the ‘older’ generation I have a young outlook and now have the time to support my local community and I would relish the opportunity to be able to give something meaningful and positive back to my community,” added Mr. Perry.
