Businesses in Narberth have expressed concern over Pembrokeshire County Council’s new waste collection scheme.

At present, some Narberth businesses have to put the rubbish out after they shut at 5 pm on a Friday in order for it to be collected at 6.30 am the following Monday.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Narberth Town Council on Tuesday night when town clerk Caroline Coaker said she had received a letter from concerned business owners.

They said that they are concerned that rubbish may be blown away in the wind over the weekend.

Ms. Coaker mentioned that she didn’t want people to drive through Narberth thinking that the town was scruffy because the rubbish hadn’t been collected or was left lying around.

Mayor, Clr. Chris Walters said: “The general consensus is that the scheme has been poorly rolled out.”

The clerk said she would write to Pembrokeshire County Council asking if the rubbish from Narberth businesses could be collected at 9 am on Monday, rather than at half-past-six in the morning.

She addded that this would allow businesses in Narberth to put their waste out just before they open up.
