The generosity of the community has seen donations collected for three Tenby establishments that were burgled over the summer.
Incidents occurred overnight on August 9-10 where the RNLI lifeboat station on Castle Hill was broken into, with money taken from the charity donation box; the padlock on the charity box for the Shipwrecked Mariners Society on Castle Square was also broken into and money taken from within; whilst a window was also forced open at the Dennis Café on Castle Beach, and the till was removed and the money stolen.
After a police appeal to find the culprits, Tenby’s Mayor Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall also launched an appeal of her own to raise funds to replace the money that was stolen.
“Tenby is an area with relatively low crime figures - that is why we were so shocked earlier this year when mindless criminals targeted our RNLI station, the Shipwrecked Mariners charity collecting point, and the Dennis Cafe on Castle Beach, with significant damage caused and charity cash stolen,” said the Mayor.
“I appealed to the people of Tenby to donate money to compensate these charities and one of our most respected businesses, and I am delighted that we have reached our target of raising £1,500.
“I am grateful for the many generous donations including significant anonymous giving. It just goes to show that Tenby is at its best when we work together!” added Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall.
Phil John - coxwain of the RNLI?Lifeboat Station remarked: “All at Tenby Lifeboat Station are extremely grateful for the very generous donations received after our break-in and to the Mayor for setting up the appeal – it’s great to see the community spirit is still strong, despite the difficult times we are in.”
