Looking for a childminder, then look no further than Heather Davies and Amanda Morris-Rees.
Both are registered to take three children under five years, three five to seven-year-olds and four eight to 12-year-olds.
Heather has been registered for 20 years. She holds NVQ3 in Early Years Care and Education, has a level five rating in food hygiene and safety practice and a City & Guilds in basic catering.
Amanda, meanwhile, has been registered for 28 years. She’s an NNEB, has a Royal Society of Health Diploma in Nursery Nursing, a Norland diploma, OA diploma in child psychology and certificate in community food and nutrition skills (Early Years).
Not resting on their laurels, both Amanda and Heather are studying for an SEN diploma and have completed two aspects of the healthy and sustainable pre-school scheme (national award), with the next two ready to hand in.
Both follow the Foundation Phase. Amanda also offers access to a pre-school/Early Years numeracy and literacy programme.
Both Heather and Amanda are ‘Fellow’ members of PACEY, through whom they regularly log Continuous Professional Development.
They both hold current certificates in paediatric first aid, food hygiene, child protection, food allergy and EPI-PEN training (as both care for children with life-threatening food allergies), are registered with ICO and have regular enhanced DBS police checks.
They also regularly pursue courses relevant to childcare (recently a workshop promoting the use of the Welsh language through music and movement, adverse childhood trauma and a mindfulness taster).
At their homes, they have an excellent selection of indoor and outdoor resources - from birth to teenage. They have secure, well-equipped gardens, with a separate fenced-in area for younger children.
Amanda has pets on the premises, but at present Heather does not.
In addition, children are taken on regular outings to the Dinosaur Park, Heatherton, Folly Farm, Manor House and local toddler groups. Plus, of course, the beach, woods, local parks etc.
Amanda and Heather promote the use of the Welsh language with books, songs and Foundation Phase resources. Heather’s husband is Welsh-speaking and assists her some days and Amanda attends Sylfaen evening classes.
And what’s more, thanks to a recent grant, they have a good selection of Welsh resources.
In addition, new craft ideas and materials are always being experimented with, which means craft opportunities are available most days. Amanda’s gang are regular entrants to the Observer’s Friday Fun page.
In addition, music and movement sessions using English and Welsh are provided regularly too.
Amanda and Heather are also proud to provide healthy, home-cooked meals and/or snacks.
