Senedd Member for Preseli Pembrokeshire Paul Davies MS has raised the issue of stroke services at the Senedd with the First Minister, Mark Drakeford MS.
Mr Davies told the First Minister that the latest grades from the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme meant that there needed to be serious improvements in stroke care in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
Mr Davies also attended a reception to discuss the future of stroke services. The event provided an opportunity to hear more from people affected by stroke, learn about the Welsh NHS Executive’s ongoing work to transform stroke services and connect with the wider stroke community in Wales.
Mr Davies said: “Stroke is the fourth biggest killer in Wales and it’s vital that improvements are made urgently, to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. It’s very disappointing to see that grades have gone down for rehabilitation services like occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.
“It’s crucial that these services receive the support and resources they need to provide effective care to stroke patients in Pembrokeshire and I will continue to raise the importance of investing in these services, at every available opportunity.”
