A Kilgetty man has given his 100th blood donation at the Welsh Blood Service donor session at Tenby Leisure Centre.
Berkley Prout is 67 and lives in Kilgetty with his wife, Susan. He started donating in 1974 at the Llanmiloe Community Hall, when he was an engineering apprentice at the Ministry of Defence Proof and Experimental Establishment in Pendine.
After donating blood in Pendine, he has continued to donate in Tenby or Narberth over the last 50 years.
The Welsh Blood Service describes giving blood as “one of the most selfless gifts you can give to another person.”
Did you know that hospitals in Wales require 350 donations a day to support patients in need? The Welsh Blood Service needs blood donors from all backgrounds to give blood to meet the daily demand and ensure there is enough for hospital patients. Just one single blood donation can help up to three patients as it can be split into its different components and used in various ways to help patients recover.
