Thanks to generous donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities has purchased Repose Cushions for use across Carmarthenshire.

Repose Cushions are used on chairs and general-purpose wheelchairs to provide relief and reduce the incidence of pressure injuries.

The cushions will be used by the community nursing team supporting patients across the Towy Valley, Carmarthenshire.

Sister Alison Wardrop, Junior District Nurse, said: “We are so grateful to the patients and families whose donations have allowed us to purchase these repose cushions.

“Our nurses will now be able to offer the cushions to help alleviate pain and the discomfort of patients when sitting in chairs or wheelchairs for long periods of time. The cushions will also help to reduce the incidence and severity of pressure injuries in the local community.”

Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities Nicola Llewelyn said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.

“Your donations are making a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff.”

Hywel Dda Health Charities is the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board. The aim of the charity is to make a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. The generous charitable donations received from patients, their families and local communities do not replace NHS funding, but are used to provide services and activities above and beyond what the NHS can provide.

Hywel Dda Health Charities raises and distributes funds to enhance local NHS services through:

  • Offering additional patient comforts to make time spent in hospital more comfortable
  • Providing the most up-to-date medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment
  • Creating more welcoming surroundings for patients, their families and staff
  • Supporting staff learning and development and wellbeing initiatives
  • Enhancing care in local communities
  • Funding research projects to improve our understanding of new and emerging treatments
  • Delivering healthy living and health promotion initiatives.
