For the third consecutive year, the chapel at Manorbier Castle will host another classic Hallowe’en horror movie double-bill that will be screened by the Rooms With A View Pop-Up Cinema group on Saturday, October 31.
The evening will start with the silent German expressionism cult classic ‘The Cabinet of Dr..Caligari’, which is Rotten Tomatoes’ greatest horror film of all time. Creepy in 1920 when it was first screened in the theatres and still creepy 95 years later, this classic horror film is deemed to be a cinematic work of art.
Following the interval down at the Crypt café, the iconic 1941 Universal Studios horror classic ‘The Wolf Man’, starring Lon Chaney Jr, will be screened. Celebrated as of one of Universal’s finest monster movies, ‘The Wolf Man’ story has been told many times since on the silver screen, but it’s Lon Chaney Jr’s portrayal of the lunar nocturnal creature that will be always be revered as the best of them all.
Each film runs approximately 70 minutes, with a 30-minute interval in the castle’s Crypt café, where there will be a licensed bar and hot food served.
‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’ is rated a ‘U’ and ‘The Wolf Man’ is rated a ‘PG’.
“The atmosphere inside the castle during the Hallowe’en film screenings is incredible” said Simon Worley from Rooms With A View Cinema. “With the inner castle lit up and the Chapel auditorium and lower Crypt café ambiently lit by candle light illuminating the castle’s features, this is yet another location that complements the films we choose perfectly.”
Hallowe’en fancy dress is optional, but very much welcomed. The castle doors will be open from 7 pm, with the first film screened around 7.30 pm. All box office proceeds will go directly towards the British Red Cross Syrian Crisis Appeal.
A local charity will be supported for the children’s Christmas pop-up cinema screening in December, which will be announced next month.
Due to restricted capacity, there is a limited amount of tickets available. Tickets are priced at £8 per seat and are currently on sale at www.roomswithaview.wales.
