Congratulations to Templeton Churchwarden and former Whitland Grammar School teacher Mrs Mair Bowen, of Kilgetty, who has recently received the BBC Wales Food Hero award for her community work at a ceremony in Cardiff.

A Food and Farming award is apt for the Anglesea farm girl who studied domestic science at college.

“Don’t write too much about me,” Mair urged as she told the Observer how she and three helpers were going to prepare, cook and pack over 50 cawl and savoury scone takeways in her kitchen for people who live on their own this (Friday) evening.

Before the pandemic, she had been part of a team providing meals to 60 or 70 people in the church hall.

Mair, who was featured on the S4C programme Heno this week, is pictured with Welsh baker and Great British Bake Off star Beca Lyne-Pirkis after receiving her award.
