Carmarthenshire County Council is taking a significant advancement in its sustainability efforts by continuing to integrate electric vehicles into its fleet. Thanks to funding from the Welsh Energy Service, the Council has added 10 electric cars and 10 electric vans to its operations, emphasising its dedication to reducing carbon emissions and fostering eco-friendly transportation solutions.

To support these new electric vehicles, the Council has installed 19 EV chargers at four crucial sites: Trostre depot, Cillefwr depot, Cwmamman depot, and County Hall. This includes six rapid chargers and thirteen fast chargers, ensuring that the fleet remains operational with minimal downtime.
Further enhancing the infrastructure, the Council has secured funding and purchased an additional 18 chargers—four rapid chargers and fourteen fast chargers—also utilising the Welsh Energy Service grant. These units are now in our depots ready to be installed. We are seeking to install these chargers in six additional sites across the county.
This initiative underscores Carmarthenshire County Council’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Our Electric Vehicle ChargePoint Infrastructure (EVCI) will be matched by our fleet aspirations. Having utilised grant funding from the Welsh Energy Service, the number of electric vehicles within County Council’s fleet has risen from 1% to 8%. By adopting electric vehicles and expanding the charging infrastructure, the Council is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
