This Friday, West Wales Maritime Heritage Society is holding an Open Event at the Maritime Museum Pembroke Dock.

The martitime heritage centre is a working boatyard with an accredited museum and has had such positive reviews it has recently been awarded a TripAdvisor award for being in the top 10 per cent of attractions worldwide!

A barbecue burger stall will be providing hot food for the event on Friday which will include displays of maritime skills such as riveting, caulking and rope splicing. 

The main focus of the event is the opening of a new reference library at the boatyard. 

At 12 noon, Mayor of Pembroke Dock Cllr George Manning will officially open the Joan Hague Maritime Library, well stocked with books on maritime subjects including naval history and submarines.

The opening will be followed at 12.15pm by a presentation by John Rattenbury: ‘The Maritime Library Then and Now’, then at 12.30pm David Millard and Lois Barlow will be celebrating the accreditation of the museum, rich in maritime artefacts and interactive displays.

From the VC Gallery, Pembroke Dock, there will be an exhibition of marine art, poetry and music, and sea shanties by the Shanty Shandy Band.
