Following the success of the first Tir a Mor festival last year, St Davids will host this inclusive family Festival again this weekend, March 28-30. Tickets are reasonably priced or free, and children under 16 are free.
Sarah Foster, Director of Tir a Mor Festival said, “We are delighted to hold the Festival for a second year, and hope this will become an annual event, to kick off the season.The Festival is organised by a group of committed volunteers, supported with generous donations from local businesses and help from the wider community. We aim to showcase many of the unique attributes of St Davids Peninsula, celebrating the resilience of the community capturing the culture, heritage and vibrance of our peninsular, with a wide range of events, with something for everyone”.
Taking place at several locations around the city starting on Friday with a Cathedral tour exploring St Davids’ close links with the sea, followed by a talk by Juliet Heslewood, author and art historian. How the sea and the seashore have been depicted throughout the history of art, from the Romans through to Rembrandt.
Friday rounds off with an evening of fun and dancing with a Twmpath.
On Saturday 29 the City Hall will be the venue for Our Changing Landscape with presentations from experts and authors - Carwyn Graves, Amber Wheeler and Tom Clare - followed a questions and answers session.
Iolo Williams, ornithologist, nature observer and broadcaster, will chair This Land, Our Future, a climate and environment-focussed panel discussion with Pupils of Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi Senedd Gwyrdd, James Parkin, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Daniel West, Pembrokeshire County Council.
Oriel y Parc will be holding a Craft Market, and hosting short talks by Will Chant, St Davids Lifeboat Coxswain who will bring the details of a rescue mission to life. Whilst there, don’t forget to visit the Courage and Community- RNLI 200 exhibition currently showing in the main exhibition area too!
A local food market will be held over lunchtime, and, by popular demand, Shaar Cuisine are returning to sell their delicious Middle Eastern food to keep you going!
Later in the afternoon, let Mererid Hopwood and Ben Llwyd take you on a journey into the world of myth and imagination, tracing links between Pembrokeshire places and The Mabinogion. Followed by a cheese and wine evening where art and textiles will be on display by local artists, with the soothing sound of a professional harpist.
On Sunday Câr-y-Môr host a family-friendly tour of our peninsula’s unique seafood and seaweed Community Benefit Society Farm where visitors can learn about their journey, current activities and taste seaweed, see how it is harvested sustainably, and visit the shop with seaweed products and seafood.
The undeniable attraction of St Davids with its unique history and programme of events will promise an enjoyable weekend for all who visit Tir a Mor!!
