June started fine and stayed fine all the way through. The Nordic walkers launched the month’s Steps2Health activities with a very pleasant walk at Cosheston.

The cool shade was very welcome when they stopped for lunch on the water’s edge, looking across at Lawrenny Quay.

The following Saturday, 33 walkers enjoyed shady walks around Colby Woodland Garden to admire the rhododendrons in their gaudy glory. At the end, the scrummy cakes at the Bothy cafe were equally well enjoyed.

The next day, eight club members tackled the annual walk through Range West at Castlemartin.

The undeveloped coastline scenery was as stunning as ever. However with a long day and no shade, some of the group were flagging by the end.

On Thursday, June 8, eight Nordic walkers went to Llawhaden. Because of the hot weather, they did a less strenuous version of the planned route. Starting from St Aidan’s church they made the most of the shade through Drim Wood. After a delightful picnic under the trees on the riverbank at Gelli, they retraced their steps to the start.

The following Saturday proved that you don’t need to leave Tenby to enjoy coastal scenery. The Speedies were very warm by the time they had climbed up to Allen’s View, but the scenery from the top made the effort worthwhile.

A small band of five Nordic walkers did the headland walk at Angle the following week. It was hot again with very little breeze. What shade there was on the circular route was greatly enjoyed. The ever changing coastal views were as stunning as ever.

The undoubted highlight of the month was the trip to the National Botanic Garden on Saturday, June 17. The gardens were magnificent in their summer finery. The flowers were at their very best in the sunshine.

After the usual group walks in the morning, everyone had time for a leisurely lunch and a visit to their favourite area. The group climbed back on the coach, well pleased with their day out.

On Thursday, June 22, seven Nordic walkers tackled an energetic route at Amroth. From the seafront, they puffed up the long hill to Trelessy farm. Regaining their breath they made their way down through Eastlake farm, then along a brambly path to reach the road near Amroth church. The churchyard provided a delightful spot for a coffee break. After that, they continued through Pendeilo Wood and Colby Lodge to reach Amroth beach, where they enjoyed their picnic lunch.

The club has enjoyed another month enhanced by glorious summer weather. All are looking forward to more friendship and fun in the fresh air next month.
