Thursday, March 23 is World Meteorological Day. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was established in Geneva, Switzerland, on this day in 1950 and has 193 member countries. World Meteorological Day 2023 will focus on the theme, ‘The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations’. The weather is a fascinating subject, and the way meteorologists try to predict the weather is changing all the time. Find out about this, or do some weather recording yourself. Make a rain collector from an upturned pop bottle with the end cut off.

Cupcakes and Karaoke

Tenby Youth Club is planning to have a Cupcake and Karaoke night on Thursday, March 23. For more information contact [email protected] or on 07861 625267.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour, at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 25, is the moment millions of people around the world show they care about the future of our planet. Everyone has a part to play in making that happen. Will you join the movement? Give an hour to Earth - connect with nature, your community and with people around the world. You could have a meal by candlelight, go for an evening walk and enjoy the darkness, or sit and look at the view out of your window. Whatever you decide to do, turn off your lights for an hour.

Greek Independence Day

As Saturday is also the anniversary of Greece starting a war of independence in 1821 when a Bishop raised a Greek flag over the Monastery of Agia Lavra in the Peloponnese, it is a good time to celebrate all things Greek – maybe have a Greek meal, hold your own mini Olympics, run a marathon, make a mosaic, or decide which bit of Greece you would like to visit sometime. The Greek flag is blue and white, and lots of Greeks paint their houses blue to ward off evil spirits – perhaps you could find or make something blue to go outside your house.

Tenby Town Litter Pick

On Sunday, March 26 at 4pm, the Plastic Free Tenby group is organising a litter pick. Meet at the Brother Thomas Garden on Crackwell Street. Litter pickers and bags will be provided, but bring your own if you can. You can decide which part of Tenby to pick litter in – let’s try to clean up as many areas as possible! Everyone is welcome.

Big Seed Sow, Swap and Sip

Every year the Royal Horticultural Society holds a Big Seed Swap every year and this year Tenby Community Edible Garden is joining in. On Tuesday, March 28, everyone is welcome to come to the Edible Garden (the Gilroy Phillips Memorial Garden) on the corner of South Cliff and Sutton Street at 11am. Bring any seeds that you would like to swap or donate to the edible garden. Tea and coffee will be available, and there will be the opportunity to make origami seed swap packets to do your swapping with. You are welcome to come along just for tea and a chat, to have a look at the edible garden, and to help sow some of the seeds if you like.

Welsh Mythology

At Tenby Museum on Thursday, March 30, Glyn Harries will be giving a talk on Welsh Mythology. This will be at 7pm. Contact the Museum on 842809 for more information.

Tenby and District Arts Club

Next Friday, March 31 at 7pm, Tenby Arts Club will hold its final meeting for the season, which will be the big general meeting. This will be in St Johns Church Hall and everyone is welcome. Members can vote, but anyone else can come along to find out about the club over tea, coffee and biscuits. The club‘s weekly meetings will then resume on the first Friday in October.

Petanque and Outdoor Boccia

As it became very difficult to get the correct permissions to build a petanque pitch in Battery Gardens, it looks like we will have to make do with the beach or a flat bit of grass. But, on the upside, the grant has been used to buy some petanque and outdoor boccia equipment which will be available for anyone in Tenby to borrow. It is a comprehensive selection of equipment, enabling anyone to have a go at this sport, no matter what your mobility level. Get in touch on [email protected] or on 01834 842730 if you are interested in having a go.

Library of Things

The petanque and boccia equipment above will be the beginning of a library of things that will be available for people to borrow. We are hoping to gather a list of things that other organisations have as well, that they would like to lend out when they are not using them. It is early days yet, and the details of how it will work have still to be decided. Volunteers will be needed to help to run this as more things are added to the collection. If you are interested or have suggestions, please get in touch as above!
