The Summer Reading Challenge is back! This year’s theme of ‘Ready, Set, Read!’ celebrates sports, games and play.

The Challenge is open to all junior library members who want to take part – just come into the library at Tenby to sign up and receive a collection folder. Then the next three times they take out at least two books they will get a sticker sheet for the folder, and when completed they get a certificate and a medal.

Any books will qualify but there is also a themed booklist in the online catalogue at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/libraries-and-culture; click on the link to Find Library Books and use Ready Set Read as the search term. The results can then be filtered by language, branch location and material type.

If your child wants to take part but is not yet a library member, they can join if you provide a document showing your name and address. Joining and borrowing books are both free.

The Library will also be hosting craft activities during the school holidays. At Tenby, events are on every Tuesday afternoon for five weeks from July 25 until August 22, at 3-4pm. These are free but booking is required; booking for these events open the day before, Monday at 10am.

In Saundersfoot Library there will be two craft activities on Thursday, August 3, in Saundersfoot Library at 11-12pm and in Narberth Library at 2-3pm. All the other libraries in Pembrokeshire will also be hosting events.

The Summer Reading Challenge is developed by The Reading Agency together with the Youth Sport Trust. The Challenge helps keep children reading during the summer, improving children’s reading confidence and helping them be ready for the return to school in the autumn. And of course, it’s free.
