Kevin De Banks, Managing Director of Davies Builders Merchants in Whitland, has been very proud to have led a highly successful, longstanding business over the past 30 years and is now leading it into a new, exciting prosperous future.

Together with his father Alan, Kevin ran a series of discount DIY stores in Twickenham, West London. With the emergence of Focus and B & Q nearby, it soon became apparent that they would need much larger premises and be able to diversify in order to succeed.

A chance chain of events led the family to an ideal business opportunity in Whitland. They wanted one large outlet that would offer the prospect of growth and took over the one-and-a-half-acre site at Station Road, Whitland, which not only provided land for the business, but also a home for the family. They bought the business from DL Davies and decided to keep the business name due to its familiarity locally and good reputation.

The company is still very much a family concern. Kevin’s father has since retired, but his mother, Estelle, works in accounts, along with sister Jeanette Mora Pardo, daughter Caroline in sales accounts and marketing. Steffan Guest, son-in-law, is also in sales. Kevin’s wife Miliana has grown the kitchen section from a small selection of cupboards over seven years ago to a now thriving kitchen department which can offer over 30 kitchens. Miliana is responsible for design and state-of-the-art 3D planning. And his grandson young Elis will have a promising future with the company one day.

The business, which started as a local builders merchants, now delivers to customers within a 40-50 mile radius of Whitland down to the coast and towards Llanelli and which basically covers all of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, supplying everything needed to build a house for an independent builder or a major housing development.

Davies Builders Merchants is the largest independent single branch builders merchants in West Wales, now employing 26 members of staff in all departments. It runs on solid family traditional values, which is apparent by the loyalty of the staff. It continues to provide a traditional quality service and reliable delivery.

The company stocks a complete range of parts for kitchens and bathrooms, products to cover all aspects of building, carpentry, plumbing, flooring, insulation, paint and tiling as well as a large range of outdoor landscaping products.
