Kilgetty WI had an enjoyable February meeting at Kilgetty Community Centre when guest speaker was Paul Raven from Tea traders of Carmarthen.
Paul had a wealth of knowledge on the history of tea, types of tea and processes involved in tea production. His talk was interesting and informative.
Paul brewed teas for members to try stressing the importance of the length of time involved in brewing each type. ‘White tea with mango’ proved to be a favourite with members, and ‘Blue Lady’ was also much enjoyed.
At the end of the tasting session, members had the opportunity to purchase a variety of teas and no doubt some members are likely to visit Paul’s shop in Carmarthen to sample more.
Following Paul’s talk, vice president Jane Gilbert led the business side of the meeting. All members received a copy of this year’s programme of events aptly decorated in green the WI colour. Each member received a WI pen from President Lyn Lawson in her absence and members thank her for providing these. Treasurer Sylvia Wright gave her monthly financial report and informed members they would be provided with forms for annual subscription in March.
Jane highlighted items from the monthly newsletter which included Rhos Marmalade show, decorating the WI window in May in WI house Haverfordwest, International women’s day on March 7, Carew social walk, Broad Haven board walk, craft activities at WI house, Summerhill WI coffee morning, New Hedges WI quiz and an invitation to St Florence WI and choir performance.
Members were requested to volunteer with the upkeep of Kilgetty community garden and building maintenance. Jane informed members of the sad news that Neil Jackson, who had been actively involved in Kilgetty community for many years, had passed away.
Members had the opportunity to donate dental items in support of this year’s resolution ‘Dental Health Matters’.
The competition winner for ‘unusual tea pot’ was Monica Thomas, 2nd Kath Breen, 3rd Sylvia Wright. Raffle winners were Sue Hole and Chris Blundell.
The next meeting will be held on March 11 with a talk on Dilly’s Chocolate.
