An evening of celebrations was held at the Crymych Arms community owned pub in the village of Crymych on Saturday evening.
Many of the local supporters turned out on May 18, 2024 to see the unveiling of the new bar and cwtsh area as the community celebrated the latest phase of the redevelopment of the building.
It followed a fantastic effort made by local people to buy the closed pub and to reopen it as a community hub, football clubhouse and pub. The HubClubPub idea proved tremendously popular and over £220,000 was raised by the autumn of 2023. The local contributions allowed the project committee to draw down additional grant funding and the community was then able to buy the pub.
Following a complete makeover of the bar and cwtsh area, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday evening with Granville and Sheila John presiding. As well as cutting the ribbon, they addressed the crowds present with words of congratulations on seeing the whole community achieving such a great outcome of reopening the Crymych Arms pub.
Project team member Cris Tomos said: “The support from the community has been outstanding, with people from near and far supporting the community share offer to gather the funds to buy the pub and to reopen it.”
The project team is now asking people to call in and give additional ideas on what activities and social events can be put on at the community venue. Offers are already coming in for developing a history club, a walking club and a gardening club.
The next phase of development will be the revamping of the restaurant area within the building. Anyone interested in supporting the project can contact the community pub on crymych by emailing [email protected] or phoning the HubClubPub on 01239 831435.
