CONGRATULATIONS to Simon Robson, of East Block House Angle, who has undertaken a very demanding black belt grading and has been successful on grading to Shodan.

Simon started training back in 2006 in the Manchester area under Terry Pottage and Iain Swain at the Sale dojo and a member of the EKGB. On relocating the family business to Angle, Simon and his Daughter Efa started training at Pembroke Dock Karate Dojo.

Simon was examined on all aspects of the Wadoryu Karate syllabus, Kihon, Kata, Kumite, heavy bag conditioning and fitness.

Shihan Graham Thomas, who is celebrating his 50th year of teaching Karate to the community, said:

“Simon showed full commitment to all elements of his grading processing good form, speed, power, focus and a healthy vigorous attitude to all elements of his grading.”

“When Simon and his Daughter Efa started training, I could see Simon had a knowledge of karate and this would help guide his daughter through her training goals and grades.

“We have encouraged parent and siblings and it is gratifying to see them helping each other!”

At age 50, Simon’s competition days have passed, although you would not think it! He still enjoys a go on the mats.

A ‘solid student who gives back to the job’, Simon can be seen repairing floors, tiling and cleaning at the dojo by Pennar Robins Playing Fields.

His main focus, however, is Kata Bunkai training and passing on his knowledge to club members.

Students as young as five and families can train together, for the first hour.

For anyone interested, Karate classes will restart on Tuesday, September 2; all ages 6.30-7.30pm and seniors 6.30-8pm.
