Cancer Research UK received a charitable boost last week when they were presented with a donation of £840 from a loyal fundraiser who conducted her own ‘bake-off’ once again over the festive period.
Maureen Lower MBE raised the magnificent sum which she presented to Cancer Research UK’s area support manager Caroline Keech at the Tenby shop in Tudor Square, by selling her Christmas cakes in and around the local area.
She has been making and selling real traditional Christmas cakes to aid various charities for the past 25 years, and this year baked 132 of them for the fundraising effort, with all the proceeds going towards Cancer Research UK.
“There are only seven left after selling them to all my regular customers and new ones. I even took 49 back over to Berlin when I visited!” said Maureen, who already has 28 cakes on order for later this year.
“A big thank you goes to all those that donated and to those customers that have support the Cancer Research UK charity,” she continued.
The organisation’s area support manager Caroline Keech personally thanked Maureen at the cheque presentation.
“What volunteers and supporters such as Maureen do is help save lives, as every penny raised counts, so a big thank you to her for her efforts once again,” she said.
Maureen offers thanks to the following for donations and support: Co-op in Kilgetty for their cake sale, where staff and management baked cakes and raised £210 towards her ingredients, and also raised £85 in donations; Morrisons in Haverfordwest for a £20 donation; Tesco in Pembroke Dock (£45); Upton Farm and Adrian for donating three quarters of the marzipan at £100; John at JRJ Frames in Tenby and Ben from Rudd Joinery in Pennar for providing canvas for cake bases; donations from Megan Thomas in Kilgetty and Gill Pal in Germany; Sabine Mullis for donating towards transport to Berlin; and last but not least Jo Woodgate from Kilgetty for assisting with cake preparation and Heide Morritt from Saundersfoot.
