After a longer wait than normal, the boats at Tenby harbour will be back in the water from Friday.

The operation to return the boats to the harbour water ahead of the Easter period was scheduled to start early morning on April 6, but following the Government guidelines for the lockdown, the sight of the vessels being lifted, which traditionally draws spectators viewing from vantage points around the picturesque harbour, was postponed indefinitely.The boat lift had been scheduled for this Saturday but has now been brought forward to Friday (June 5), due to strong winds expected on the weekend.“We can confirm that the boats normally moored at Tenby Harbour will be going back in the water,” said a spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council.

“This is to ensure that the boats do not risk drying out from their prolonged period out of the water during the recent warm, dry weather. The move is also in line with the ‘Stay Local’ guidelines from the Welsh Government.

“A strict procedure with essential people only has been set up for the boat-lifting to ensure that social distancing is observed. The harbour will be closed to the general public during the operation.

“Any future use of the harbour must continue to be in line with Welsh Government guidelines,” they added.

The boat-lift is expected to commence during the very early hours of Saturday.
