St Davids all-weather lifeboat launched Friday, August 16 to assist a crew member experiencing chest pains aboard a 83 metre tanker moored in St Brides Bay.
Upon arrival, lifeboat Norah Wortley drew alongside and transferred three crew onto the 3,000 tonne vessel, one of which was the station’s volunteer lifeboat medical advisor. The casualty was assessed and monitored until HM Coastguard Rescue 187 helicopter arrived from its base at St Athan.
Following a short handover, the volunteer crew assisted the winchman with extraction of the casualty by helicopter, who was taken directly to Swansea for hospital treatment.
After the safe extraction was complete, the St Davids crew transferred back aboard the lifeboat and returned to the station, rehousing at 4pm.
