A major road bridge at Pembroke Dock was closed for two-and-a-half hours on Easter Sunday afternoon.
Opened in 1975, the Cleddau Bridge, which crosses the wide estuary of Milford Haven at Pembroke Dock, carries 4.4 million vehicles per year.
Dyfed-Powys Police posted the following alert on their social media channels: ROAD CLOSED | The A477 at Cleddau Bridge is currently closed due to a police incident. If possible, please avoid the area and take an alternative route. Thanks.
“The Cleddau Bridge was closed at just after 2.30pm on Sunday, April 9 following a call expressing concern for a person’s safety,” said a spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police. “The incident was resolved at 5pm.”
The road journey between Pembroke Dock on the south side and Neyland on the north shore is 28 miles when the Cleddau Bridge is closed.
Occasionally, bad weather causes the closure of the bridge to all, or just high-sided, vehicles. For updates on its current status, visit https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/cleddau-bridge or text ‘bridge’ to 80039 (charged at your standard network rate).
