A Newcastle Emlyn man allowed his girlfriend ‘to wind him up’ and attacked two fellow campers enjoying a summer weekend break at Bosherston.
Daniel Andrew Richards, aged 32, headbutted one man and hit another with a bow saw, cutting his hand.
Richards, of Pen y Banc, Capel Iwan, admitted unlawful wounding and common assault. He was jailed for 15 months, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £500 compensation to Harley Jones.
He was also ordered to complete 25 days of a rehabilitation activity and a thinking skills course.
Dean Pulling, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court how Mr. Jones and his friend Kieran Griffiths had been pitching a tent at the camping site when Richards’s girlfriend approached them.
She fell onto their tent, but despite that the two groups became friendly. However, Richards’s girlfriend began to wind him up and the atmosphere became “awkward.”
Richards headbutted Mr. Griffiths to his mouth, but Mr. Griffiths defended himself from further attack and Richards returned to his caravan.
Mr. Jones and Mr. Griffiths decided to leave, but while they packed Richards’s girlfriend was “back and forth” between the two groups winding up each other.
Suddenly, said Mr. Pulling, Richards emerged from his caravan armed with a bow saw. He swung it at Mr. Griffiths, but caught Mr. Jones, who needed treatment at Withybush Hospital.
Judge Peter Heywood said they were unpleasant offences of violence.
“Your girlfriend did not help the situation. She was winding you up,” he told Richards.
