Both of Tenby’s lifeboats were launched at around 1.25 pm on Sunday (July 26), after one of the RNLI lifeguards on Castle Beach saw a swimmer enter the water but then fail to exit some time later.
The volunteer crew were quickly on the water and made best speed towards Castle Beach where they were tasked to search around St Catherine’s Island and towards South beach, while RNLI lifeguards and Coastguard Teams searched ashore.
With nothing found and the tide going out, meaning anyone in the water would be drifting along South beach and towards Giltar, both boats were asked to search along the beach and then around Giltar Point, down towards Lydstep and back.
Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 was soon overhead and also joined the search.
After a thorough search lasting several hours and with nothing found and nobody reported missing, all units were stood down and returned to station, with the lifeboats arriving at 4.30 pm.
